Eczema Survival Guide
Ten practical tips to help you look after your skin through Hong Kong's most humid months.
1
Do not leave sweat on your skin
After sweating, resist the urge to rub. Use a soft damp towel to gently pat the skin dry, then change into fresh, dry clothing as soon as you can. Keeping the skin surface dry is one of the most important steps during the rainy season.
2
Choose the right clothing
Loose-fitting clothes made from cotton, silk, or moisture-wicking fabrics are your best option. Less heat, less friction, and more room for your skin to breathe. What you wear is the first line of defence for your skin barrier.
Never skip moisturising
Humid air does not mean your skin is hydrated. Eczema-prone skin has a compromised barrier regardless of the weather, so moisturising is still essential. During the rainy season, choose a lightweight formula to avoid the heavy, sticky feeling. Anitch Barrier Repair Body Cream is non-greasy and designed exactly for this.
Relieve the itch without scratching
When the itch becomes hard to bear, try a cold compress, or apply a skincare product with soothing properties. The ANESININ® patented ingredient targets Staphylococcus aureus toxins at the source, helping to reduce inflammation and calm the itch without breaking the skin.
Keep your shower cool
Hot water may feel soothing in the moment, but it strips away the natural oils that protect your skin barrier, leaving skin drier and itchier afterward. Keep water temperature below 30°C, and apply Anitch Barrier Repair Body Cream within 3 minutes of stepping out to lock in moisture while the skin is still slightly damp.
Acute flare-up first aid
If your skin suddenly becomes red, swollen, or hot, press a clean cool damp cloth gently against the area for 3 to 5 minutes to bring the temperature down. Once the skin has air-dried naturally, apply a generous layer of Anitch Barrier Rescue Balm. Letting the skin dry first ensures the ANESININ® formula can work without being diluted.
Watch out for diet myths
Drinking red bean water or barley water to "reduce dampness" is a common piece of advice during the rainy season, but it does not suit everyone. For those with damp-heat type eczema, the wrong drink can actually make things worse. When in doubt, consult a professional. Stick to lighter foods like winter melon and mung beans, and be cautious with shellfish, mango, and other commonly reactive foods.
Protect your skin in air-conditioned spaces
Air conditioning removes humidity, but it also makes the air very dry. Place a cup of water near your workspace or use a humidifier to keep indoor humidity between 50 and 60%. Apply Anitch products regularly throughout the day to prevent the dry air from triggering a flare.
Manage the itch through your mind
Stress makes eczema itch more. When the urge to scratch becomes overwhelming, try taking slow deep breaths, listening to calm music for five minutes, or gently patting the area instead of scratching. Redirecting your attention genuinely helps reduce the intensity of the itch.
Keep your daily routine consistent
Rainy season puts your skin under extra strain, which means your daily skincare routine matters more, not less. The Anitch daily moisturising routine is built around helping eczema-prone skin stay stable through exactly these kinds of environmental challenges.
