When Eczema Flares Up: How to Use Barrier Rescue Balm as Your Intensive Treatment
Barrier Rescue Balm - The orange one. Targeted relief for when your skin needs it most.
Living with eczema means you know there are two types of days. The calm ones, where your skin feels manageable. And the rough ones, where a patch suddenly becomes angry, cracked, or so dry it hurts. On those days, your regular moisturiser just doesn't cut it.
That's exactly what Barrier Rescue Balm was made for. You'll know it by the orange packaging.
What is Barrier Rescue Balm, and what is it not?
Barrier Rescue Balm is the intensive treatment in the Anitch range. It's made for targeted, urgent care on areas of skin that are going through something serious, like:
Severe dryness
Deep cracks and rough patches
Active flare-ups
Red, inflamed, or damaged skin
Oozing areas
Where serum or pus is present
The Rescue Balm is not is a substitute for your daily moisturiser. Think of it as your emergency responder. It goes in when things get serious. Your daily Body Cream or Face Cream is still the one doing the steady, everyday maintenance work. You need both working together.
The right way to use it
Start with your base cream first. Apply Barrier Repair Body Cream (green) broadly across your body, or Barrier Restore Face Cream (pink) on your face and delicate areas. This step is not optional. It's the moisturising foundation that the Balm layers onto.
Apply Barrier Rescue Balm on top, locally. Put it directly over the cream you've already applied, but only on the spots that genuinely need it. It's designed for targeted treatment, not full-body coverage.
Once the flare-up calms down, you can ease back to your regular daily cream routine. You don't need to keep using the Rescue Balm on areas that have already settled.
Can I use it on my face?
Yes. Barrier Rescue Balm can be used anywhere on the body where you're dealing with severe eczema symptoms, and that includes the face. If your eyelids, lips, or cheeks are going through a rough flare-up, apply your Face Cream first and then add the Rescue Balm on top of those specific areas.
Who can use it?
Suitable for all ages, as well as pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. People with G6PD can use it safely. If you're currently using topical steroids or antibiotics, apply those to the skin first and then follow with your Anitch products on top.
If you tend to react to new products, do a quick patch test on your inner elbow and wait 30 minutes before using it more broadly.
A quick reminder: how all three products work together
Barrier Repair Body Cream (green). Your daily broad-area moisturiser for the body. The everyday foundation of your routine.
Barrier Restore Face Cream (pink). Your daily moisturiser for the face and delicate areas. Same effectiveness as the Body Cream, just a lighter texture.
Barrier Rescue Balm (orange). Your intensive local treatment for severe or flaring spots. Always applied on top of your base cream, never instead of it.
