Using Anitch Alongside Steroids: What You Should Know
If you are on steroid treatment for eczema, you do not have to choose between that and a daily moisturiser. Here is how they work together.
Topical steroids are one of the most commonly prescribed treatments for eczema. They work quickly to calm inflammation and reduce itching during a flare-up, and for many people they are an important part of managing the condition. But a question we hear a lot is this: "Can I use Anitch products at the same time?"
The short answer is yes. Here is the longer version, so you understand exactly what is happening and why the order of application matters.
Steroids and moisturisers do different jobs
Topical steroids work by reducing inflammation in the skin. They are a treatment for active flare-ups, not a long-term moisturiser, and most dermatologists recommend using them only when needed and for as short a time as possible.

They support the skin barrier, maintain hydration, and with consistent use, help reduce the frequency of flare-ups over time. These are daily skincare products, not treatments for active inflammation.
Because they work in different ways, they do not compete with each other. They can be used together as part of the same routine.
Topical steroids
Reduce active inflammation during a flare-up. Prescribed by a doctor. Used as needed, not daily long-term.
Anitch moisturisers
Support skin barrier health and hydration. Used daily and consistently. Designed for long-term eczema management.
The correct order of application
When using both, the order matters. Applying your steroid first gives it direct contact with the skin, which is important for it to work properly. Then you follow with your Anitch moisturiser on top.
Apply your topical steroid first
Apply it directly to the affected area as directed by your doctor. Use sparingly and only on the areas that need it.
Wait a few minutes
Give the steroid a moment to absorb before applying anything on top. A few minutes is generally enough.
Apply your Anitch Cream on top
Apply your daily moisturiser broadly across the skin as usual. This does not interfere with the steroid. It locks in moisture and continues supporting the skin barrier.
For flaring areas, add Barrier Rescue Balm on top

Why keeping up with daily moisturising matters even more when you are on steroids

What about topical antibiotics?

A note on G6PD
If you or your child has G6PD (Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency), all Anitch products are safe to use. They do not contain any ingredients that would trigger a G6PD reaction.
